Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Public perception of health services is a crucial determinant of healthcare utilization and community health outcomes. In recent years, digital media has emerged as a powerful tool for influencing public opinion about health services, offering platforms for health education, awareness campaigns, and feedback mechanisms. In Bida Local Government Area, Niger State, digital media has the potential to bridge gaps in health communication, particularly in addressing misinformation and fostering trust in local health systems. Studies have shown that digital media influences perceptions of health services by shaping narratives, promoting transparency, and enabling real-time engagement with healthcare providers (Olawale & Musa, 2023). However, the impact of digital media on health service perception in Bida remains underexplored. This study investigates the effects of digital media on public perceptions of health services in Bida, focusing on both its benefits and challenges.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Healthcare providers in Bida face challenges related to public trust, misinformation, and limited awareness of available health services. While digital media can address these challenges, its potential is not fully utilized. Issues such as unequal access to digital platforms, the spread of false health information, and limited engagement from healthcare institutions contribute to mixed public perceptions. This study explores these dynamics, identifying how digital media influences public perceptions of health services in Bida and offering recommendations for more effective use.
